Plant the Seed, a 10-minute music video produced by singer, filmmaker, and activist TaĆna Asili from Albany, NY, was just released in February 2019. Plant the Seed is inspired by the the work of black food justice farmer and educator Leah Penniman of Soul Fire Farm. Soul Fire Farm aims to uplift farmers of color through historical and spiritual approaches to land and agriculture, and by ending injustice in the food system.
The video highlights Leahās story of why she engages in ending racism and injustice in the food system, deeply rooted in her community’s liberation on the land. The video coincides with the release of Leahās new book, Farming While Black, the āfirst comprehensive manual for African-heritage people ready to reclaim their rightful place of dignified agency in the food system.
